# Compare HackerRank, Codility, TestGorilla, LinkedIn

> How a Skills Passport compares with HackerRank, Codility, TestGorilla, LinkedIn and certifications: what each records, what it is good for, when to use it.

Endorsements, certificates, coding screens and test libraries each tell you something about a skill. Here is what each one records, what it is good for, and where a Skills Passport fits alongside them.

Compare the signals

## Which comparison do you need?

Each comparison starts with what the other approach does well, then sets out what Lemma adds, when to choose each, and answers common questions about alternatives and pricing. Pick the one that matches the signal you rely on today.

### For your profile

Signals you carry from job to job.

Platforms companies use to assess candidates.

- [#### Lemma vs HackerRank

Company-run coding screens and interviews, set against a record the candidate keeps.

## What does each skill signal record?

No single signal answers every question. An endorsement shows goodwill, a certificate shows an exam pass, and a test shows one sitting. The useful comparison is what each one actually records, what it is good for, and what it leaves for someone else to check.

| Signal | What it records | Good for | What it leaves open |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| LinkedIn endorsements | That a connection vouched for a skill you listed | Visibility and a quick signal from people who know you | What they saw you do, and when |
| Certifications | That you passed an issuer's exam on a given date | A recognised external standard, sometimes a formal requirement | How you apply the skill day to day, and since the exam |
| Company-run coding tests | How you did on one company's coding assessment for one role | Consistent screening of many applicants for a specific job | Anything outside that test, and the result usually stays with the company |
| Pre-employment test libraries | Scores on a set of timed tests chosen for a role, often beyond code | Broad, early screening across many roles and applicants | How deep one skill goes, and how the person works with others |
| Degrees | That you completed a programme of study | Broad foundations, and roles where a degree is required | Which specific skills you use now, and how well |
| Lemma Skills Passport | Sessions, assessments, linked work and confirmations per skill, each with its source | Showing evidence of a specific skill to someone who has not worked with you | Formal requirements that name a specific degree or certificate |

## Do you need more than one signal?

Usually, yes. Keep the certificate a role requires and the profile recruiters search. Add evidence that shows how you use a skill now: live sessions rated by the person you worked with, adaptive assessments and work you can link to.

## Add evidence to what you already have.

Lemma is in early access. Join the list to build a Skills Passport alongside your profile and certificates.
