# LinkedIn Skill Assessments Alternative

> LinkedIn Skill Assessments are gone and endorsements are one click. Compare them with a Skills Passport that shows the evidence behind each skill.

LinkedIn retired its Skill Assessments, and an endorsement says a connection vouches for a skill. A Skills Passport shows the sessions, assessments and work behind it. Most people will use both.

## How does Lemma compare with LinkedIn skills?

LinkedIn shows the skills you list, endorsements from your connections, and the jobs or credentials you link them to. Its Skill Assessments and their badges were discontinued. Lemma records evidence for each skill, from rated live sessions, adaptive assessments and linked work, and scores it from 0 to 100.

LinkedIn and the Lemma Skills Passport compared
| Dimension | LinkedIn | Lemma Skills Passport |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What a skill shows | The skill name, endorsements, and any jobs, projects or credentials you link it to | Sessions, assessment results, linked work and confirmations, each with its source and date |
| Skill tests | Skill Assessments are no longer available; LinkedIn said their badges would be removed from profiles in 2024 | Adaptive assessments of 15 to 25 questions whose result is added to the skill as evidence |
| Social signal | Endorsements from 1st-degree connections, one click each | Confirmations count up to a few distinct people; reciprocal patterns are checked |
| Summary shown | The skill name and how many people endorsed it | An SCI score from 0 to 100 per skill, with the breakdown behind it |
| Recency | Endorsements stay on the profile until removed or hidden | A freshness component lowers the score when evidence gets old |
| Built for | A professional network: profiles, connections, jobs and messaging | Skill evidence you can share, organised in a signed Skills Passport |

## What does LinkedIn do well?

LinkedIn is where professional identity already lives. Recruiters search it, colleagues find you on it, and you can now attach each skill to the job, project or credential where you used it.

- Reach: a profile that people and recruiters already look for
- Context: job history, education and credentials linked to each skill
- Low effort: endorsing or being endorsed takes seconds

## What does Lemma add to a LinkedIn profile?

Lemma does not try to be a network. It records evidence of a skill so that someone who has never met you can check it.

### Evidence, not a tally

Each skill shows what its score rests on: rated live sessions, adaptive assessments and linked work, each traceable to its source.

### Limits on social signals

Confirmations from people count, but only up to a few distinct people, and an integrity check lowers a score when confirmations are traded in a ring.

### A document you can share

The Skills Passport is signed by Lemma, so whoever receives it can check it was issued by Lemma and has not been altered.

## When should you rely on LinkedIn?

Rely on LinkedIn when you want to be found. It is where recruiters and former colleagues look, where your career history sits, and where people who know you can vouch for you quickly. Linking each skill to a job or project there is worth the few minutes it takes.

- Being found by recruiters and former colleagues
- Showing your career history, education and network
- A quick, informal signal from people who know you

## When should you choose Lemma?

Choose Lemma when someone needs evidence for a specific skill and has not worked with you. That is common when you change fields, when your job titles undersell what you do, or when a skill is new. Link the Passport from your LinkedIn profile so both work together.

- Showing evidence for one skill to someone who has not worked with you
- Changing fields, where your job titles do not reflect your skills
- Keeping a current record of skills you are actively practising

## Questions about Lemma vs LinkedIn

### What replaced LinkedIn Skill Assessments?

LinkedIn's help centre says Skill Assessments are no longer available and that their badges would be removed from profiles in 2024. It now encourages members to link each skill to the jobs, projects, education or credentials where they used it. We cover the change in detail on our blog.

### Can I link my Skills Passport from my LinkedIn profile?

Yes. A Passport is shared through a link you control, so you can add it to your LinkedIn profile, a CV or an application. The two work well together: LinkedIn for visibility, the Passport for evidence.

### Can I import my LinkedIn endorsements into Lemma?

No. An endorsement does not record what the person saw, so there is nothing to turn into evidence. Your SCI comes from sessions, assessments and work recorded on Lemma or linked to it.

### Is Lemma a replacement for LinkedIn?

No. LinkedIn is a professional network. Lemma is a record of skill evidence. They solve different problems, and most people will keep using LinkedIn alongside a Passport.

## Bring evidence, not just a profile.

Lemma is in early access. Join the list to build a Skills Passport with evidence anyone can inspect.
