Lemma vs Codility

Codility helps engineering teams screen and interview developers in a realistic coding environment. Lemma helps people build a record of skill evidence they keep. One runs your process; the other feeds it.

How does Lemma compare with Codility?

Codility is a technical assessment platform for hiring teams: take-home screens, structured interviews in VS Code, and Skills Intelligence for mapping an engineering team. Lemma is a candidate-owned record, built from rated sessions, adaptive assessments and linked work, with an SCI score per skill that stays with the person.

What does Codility do well?

Codility is built around realistic engineering work. Candidates code in a real IDE with the tools they would use on the job, and teams can decide how AI may be used rather than pretending it does not exist.

  • Interviews in VS Code with a terminal, packages and multi-file projects
  • Automated code analysis for quality, maintainability and complexity
  • Identity verification, impersonation detection and proctoring

What does Lemma add to a Codility screen?

A screen tells one company how a candidate did on its tasks. Lemma adds evidence gathered over months that the candidate brings with them.

Evidence before the first task

A Passport shows rated sessions, assessments and linked repositories or deployments before you spend an interviewer's hour.

Owned by the candidate

Evidence stays with the person, so a strong result is not lost when one application ends, and history counts alongside one sitting.

A score with its reasons

SCI is built from capped components (practice 25, proof 40, reliability 20, freshness 15) and every point traces to its source.

When should you choose Codility?

Choose Codility when you run a structured engineering hiring process and want candidates working in a realistic IDE, with clear rules for AI use and identity checks. It also fits engineering leaders who want a view of the skills inside their existing team.

  • Structured screens and interviews for engineering roles
  • Realistic, multi-file tasks with defined rules for AI use
  • Mapping skills across an existing engineering team

When should you choose Lemma?

Choose Lemma when you want evidence a candidate builds over time rather than a single sitting, when roles span engineering and non-engineering skills, or when you are a developer who wants a record you keep. Candidate invites and the verification API are in early access for selected teams.

  • Evidence built over months, not one sitting
  • Roles that mix engineering, design, data or product
  • Developers who want a record that is theirs

Questions about Lemma vs Codility

What are the alternatives to Codility?

Other technical assessment platforms, including HackerRank and TestGorilla, offer coding screens or test libraries for hiring teams. Lemma takes a different route: candidates build a Passport of evidence they keep, and teams can view it or invite them to an assessment.

Is Codility free?

Codility's pricing page, checked on 14 October 2026, lists no free plan. Its Starter plan was listed at $1,200 with annual billing and up to 120 invite credits a year, alongside Scale and Custom plans. A free trial is available on request: Codility's team arranges it around your roles rather than through self-serve sign-up.

Can Lemma replace Codility for technical screening?

Not today, and not for every team. Codility runs proctored, role-specific screens at volume. Lemma is better used before or alongside a screen: a Passport tells you who to invite and what to probe, and candidate assessment invites are in early access.

Do Codility results stay with the candidate?

Codility results are produced for the company that ran the assessment. Codility also describes a skills profile for engineers built on demonstrated ability. A Lemma Passport is the candidate's own document, shared through a link they control.

Lemma is in early access. Join the list to build a Skills Passport with evidence anyone can inspect.
